Showerthought: My old credit union's 0.5% savings rate versus my new online bank's 4.25%

I kept my emergency fund at my local credit union for a decade because I liked the people, but I finally moved it to an online bank last month. The difference in interest earned in just one statement cycle was more than the credit union paid me all last year. Why do we stick with places that clearly don't value our money?

Loyalty shouldn't cost you that much money.

Yeah but the whole "loyalty shouldn't cost you" thing only works if you're getting something back. Sometimes you're just paying extra for a logo.

Honestly, my buddy did the same thing and @nelson.wesley is right, loyalty gets expensive fast.
