Saw a guy at a truck stop in Flagstaff wearing a jacket he'd patched with old seatbelt webbing.

Looked rough a year back, but he kept adding to it and now it's a full design. Anyone else seen workwear turn into something more like art?

My old jeans tell the same kind of story.

That's the best kind of project, when it just evolves on its own from fixing stuff. It stops being just a jacket and becomes a record of where it's been. Real art comes from use, not from a blank canvas.

My 15 year old Carhartt is more patches than original coat at this point. @elizabethg18 is right, the story is in the repairs. A brand new jacket is just a thing, but a worn one has a map of every rip and stain that shows what you were doing. That's what makes stuff actually yours. The perfect look comes from not trying to be perfect.
