My main sewing machine motor burned out mid-project last Thursday

I was finishing a linen dress for a client in Austin when the machine just stopped and started smelling like hot plastic. I checked the belt and it was fine, but the motor housing was too hot to touch. I had to finish the hem by hand, which added about 3 hours to my work. Has anyone found a good repair shop in Texas for older industrial machines, or should I just start looking for a new one?

Maybe check the brushes first...

Last year my vacuum started making that same grinding noise. Pulled out three hair ties, a Lego, and what looked like a petrified french fry from the roller brush. Works fine now.

Did your machine have that old carbon brush motor? My friend's shop in Dallas had a similar meltdown with their heavy-duty machine. They found a guy in Fort Worth who only works on vintage industrial motors, fixed it for less than half the price of a new unit. Might be worth a call before you give up on it.
