I finally got why pocket placement matters from carrying my groceries.
I was lugging bags home and my pants pockets were useless. They dug into my hips every time I bent down. Now I'm drawing designs with angled pockets that don't interfere with movement. It's a SMALL change that makes a BIG difference in daily wear.

Yeah quinn_hayes is totally right about the depth being the real key. I've had slanted pockets that were fine because they were cut deep enough my phone couldn't slide up and out. It's the shallow ones that are the worst, doesn't matter what angle they're at. I feel that grocery struggle so hard lol, nothing like your own pants fighting you while you're just trying to put the milk away. It's cool you're actually drawing up solutions, that's a way better move than just being annoyed.

Actually, my favorite jeans have pretty steep angled pockets and I've never had stuff fall out. The secret is having them deep enough that the opening angle doesn't matter once your phone is settled down in there. A shallow pocket with even a mild slant is way worse than a deep, slanted one. You just have to get the whole shape right, not just the angle.

Angle your pockets too much and they'll dump your phone every time you sit. Saw it with some work pants we tried at the warehouse. A slight curve works better than a sharp angle. Test it with your keys before you finalize the design.
