A talk with my friend's kid in Portland made me rethink 'grown up' clothes
My friend's 12 year old daughter, Chloe, was helping me sort fabric scraps last weekend. She pointed at a dark gray wool piece and said, 'That's a sad color for a coat, it needs a bright orange lining to surprise you.' I'd always stuck to safe, matching linings, but her idea about a hidden burst of color felt genuinely joyful. Has anyone else tried a bold, contrasting lining in a more traditional outerwear piece?

Hidden linings are the best secret.

Wait, are we talking about the inside of a jacket? It's just a piece of fabric. I mean, it's nice and all, but calling it the "best secret" feels like a lot. It's not like it changes how the coat works. Seems like people get way too into tiny details sometimes. It's a cool bonus, not some life changing feature.
