I used a new hoof hardener on a draft horse in Boise and it cracked worse than before.
The label said it was for all breeds, but after applying it to a Clydesdale's front hooves last Tuesday, I saw deep vertical cracks within 48 hours, so what's a better product for heavy horses in dry climates?

Skip the hardeners and focus on a good hoof oil for moisture.

Agreed, a flexible hoof holds up better.

Loads up on the oil like you're saying, @danielhenderson, and you'll start seeing the same pattern everywhere - people overthink the small stuff and miss the simple fix that actually works. It's like how everyone's always chasing the next magic supplement for their horse when a consistent routine and good basic care does ten times more. Stick with the oil and build from that solid foundation.
