That $15 bleach spray ruined my entire dark load of laundry

I read online you could save money mixing your own bleach spray with water in a bottle. Tried it on a dark load of t-shirts and jeans last Tuesday and ended up with orange blotches all over everything. My roommate said 'you should never use bleach undiluted like that on dark fabrics, it will always mess them up'. Now I just buy the premixed stuff for $4 at Target and keep it away from my darks. Anybody else had a homemade cleaner fail on them?

...and that's exactly what happened to my buddy Dave last spring. He mixed up some homemade bleach cleaner to save a few bucks on his whites and accidentally grabbed the wrong spray bottle later, ended up with orange splotches all over his favorite dark hoodie. He just buys the Target stuff now too and keeps them separate so he doesn't mess up again.

Mixing your own bleach spray is a bold move, but it sounds like you just made yourself a batch of 'orange blotch surprise'. Your roommate was just trying to spare you from turning your wardrobe into a tie-dye disaster zone. At least now you have a cool story to tell at parties about the time you accidentally invented a new laundry pattern. The Target stuff is a solid move because sometimes the dollar savings just isn't worth looking like you got attacked by a highlighter. Just remember, bleach and dark clothes are enemies, not friends.

Separate your bleach spray bottle from everything else, trust me I learned that the hard way too.
