Dad never spoke a word about his job loss back in the 90s.
He just got quieter and started skipping meals, we thought he was sick. Contrast that with my buddy who got laid off last month and posted about it online for support. The whole shift from private shame to public sharing is huge. Makes me wonder what else we'll open up about.

Remember how lonely that must have been. Now we have support. That's huge.

Wasn't there a study about how just knowing a group exists, even if you never go, cuts loneliness in half? I read that before the internet, finding even one person who got it could take years. Now you can find a whole forum in five minutes. That's the real change.

Hey @clairejenkins, wasn't it lonely back then because there was no support? I feel like having it now just shows how bad it was, not that the lonely part is gone.
