During a routine facial, I learned my client was over-cleansing her skin.
I adjusted her home care routine and saw a big change in her complexion! What's your go-to advice for clients who wash too much?

When you noticed the over-cleansing, was it mainly from dryness or irritation? What's the first step you take to scale back their routine?

How can you tell if it's dryness or irritation from over-cleansing? Dryness usually comes first with tight, flaky skin, then irritation hits with redness. My hot take is to drop the morning cleanse right away. For instance, a friend of mine washed too much and got dry patches, but after using just water in the AM, her skin bounced back fast. Have you tried simplifying your routine like that?

Always dryness first. @the_emery, irritation usually shows up later once the skin barrier is already weakened. The first step is dropping the morning cleanse and just using water. That single change lets the skin's natural oils start to recover without much fuss. How do you usually convince someone to try washing their face less?
