Hot take: I was wrong about using canned air on old power supplies
For years, I just blasted the dust out with canned air, you know, like everyone does. Then a repair in a 2008 Dell Optiplex last month showed me the static risk. I saw a tiny spark near a capacitor after I sprayed. Now I use a small brush and a low power vacuum first, then air from a distance. Has anyone else moved away from just blasting stuff close up?

Exactly. We learn the hard way too often.

Wait, are we sure this isn't just overthinking it? I've been blasting PSUs with canned air for like 15 years and never seen a spark, maybe that capacitor was already on its way out. Honestly, unless you're spraying it from like 2 inches away in a super dry room, I'm not convinced the static risk is as huge as people make it sound.
