That one journeyman who told me to slow down on my terminations

About 6 months ago, I was working on a big panel swap at a school downtown. I was trying to go fast to look good, you know? This older journeyman, Mike, watched me for a minute and said 'you're making extra work for yourself by rushing.' At first I was annoyed, but he showed me how I was pulling wires too tight and not leaving enough slack for future changes. So I started taking my time on each termination, making sure every bend was clean and every screw was torqued right. Now my panels look way better and I actually finish faster because I don't have to redo stuff. Has anyone else had a coworker call them out on something small that actually made a big difference in their work?

Watch Mike's trick with a panel, that guy probably saved you years of headaches and a bad back down the road. Once you get that muscle memory for clean bends and proper torque it just becomes second nature, no point in racing through something that needs to last.

Did Mike ever show you the trick about leaving enough slack for the next guy? That little thing changed everything for me too.

Should've told him my wire stretcher was on the fritz that day.
