Rewiring that 1920s bungalow made me question AFCI breaker rules

The AFCIs tripped nonstop on circuits that checked out fine, which was a huge pain. I honestly think they're overrated for basic lighting runs in retrofits, lmao. Anyone skip them when the code allows, or is that just me?

Ever notice how new safety rules can make fixing old stuff way harder than it needs to be? It feels like half the time you're just fighting the new system instead of the actual problem. I get the point, but sometimes the fix just doesn't fit the old bones of a house. Makes you wonder if the people writing the rules have ever tried to actually live with them.

Read an interesting article about updated building codes causing headaches for historic home owners. It pointed out how strict new rules often ignore the way older structures were built. That matches the feeling of fighting the system instead of the real problem. The writers probably mean well, but they don't always see the day to day struggles. Seen it myself when trying to update wiring in my own place, the rules made a simple job a big mess. There has to be a better way to keep people safe without making old homes impossible to fix.

Honestly feels like overregulation messes with everything, not just old wiring.
