Tried a different cutterhead speed on the old Erie Sand & Gravel job and got a real surprise

We were working the main channel near Toledo and I bumped the cutterhead down to 18 rpm instead of our usual 22, thinking it might save some wear on the teeth. Ended up pulling up way more clay chunks than sand, which really messed with our screening plant for a solid afternoon. So now I'm wondering, is slower always better for mixed material, or did I just get lucky with a weird patch? What's your rule of thumb for adjusting speed on the fly?

Oh man, that's wild! I always check the pump pressure too, because a slower head can sometimes mess with your slurry mix before it even hits the plant.

Actually, pump speed doesn't affect slurry mix.
