Overheard a captain in Mobile talking about silt curtains
I was grabbing coffee near the port last week and heard a guy on the phone, sounded like a captain, saying his silt curtain setup saved him a $15,000 fine. He was explaining how he used a double curtain system for a tricky channel job. I always thought they were more of a hassle than they're worth, but maybe I'm wrong. Has anyone here actually had a project where a silt curtain made a real difference?

A $15,000 fine? What kind of job was he running where the fines get that high that fast? I've seen them work on a small marina dredge, but only to stop a neighbor from complaining.

Wow, I used to think that too, but these fines can pile up crazy fast (like daily penalties).

Wait, what kind of jobs are we talking about where a neighbor complaint can rack up a $15k fine in a week? Because the most expensive mistake I ever made at work was buying the wrong kind of coffee for the break room, and that only cost me like 20 bucks and a lot of shame.
