Tried to build a floating shelf with just wood glue and it held for a month before crashing down.

I used a full tube of Titebond III on a 4-foot oak plank, thinking the bond would be strong enough without any hidden brackets. Last Tuesday, the whole thing let go and took a chunk of drywall with it, leaving a huge mess. What's the best hidden bracket system you've actually used that doesn't fail?

Honestly, I've had glue-only shelves last for years. Maybe the wall surface was the real problem.

Check the wall studs first, because even the best bracket fails in drywall alone.
