Just fixed my dryer with a $7 part after almost buying a new one

My dryer stopped heating up last Tuesday in Tucson. I was about to drop $500 on a replacement when my neighbor mentioned it might be the thermal fuse. Grabbed one from Ace Hardware for $7.20, swapped it in 10 minutes, and boom it works perfectly now. Has anyone else saved a major appliance with a tiny cheap fix?

Ha, nice work. I once spent two hours trying to fix my washing machine and ended up just kicking it, and it started working again. I guess we both saved a few hundred bucks, but at least your method was way less embarrassing. My dryer's next on the list for a thermal fuse check, but I'm honestly worried I'll mess it up and blow the whole thing.

My neighbor once fixed his fridge with a paperclip and some duct tape. The ice maker stopped working and he found a little plastic gear had snapped. He shoved the paperclip in there to hold it together and it ran for like two more years before he finally got a new fridge. I don't think his repair was exactly up to code but it got the job done. Your thermal fuse swap is way more legit than my neighbor's hillbilly engineering.

Hey same here. Used to just replace everything but not anymore.
