Turned out my $40 LED strip kit was actually putting out UV light according to my geiger counter app
Got curious after my cyberpunk desk build started giving me a sunburn feel after a week, so I downloaded some random radiation detector app on my phone and held it up to the strips and the numbers jumped way higher than the ambient reading, does anyone make RGB strips that won't slowly cook you?

My Geiger counter app is probably just as reliable as yours which means basically worthless for actual UV detection. Those phone sensors aren't built for that and they just pick up random electromagnetic noise from the LEDs. Have you actually tried putting a piece of glass or clear plastic between the phone and the strip? Regular glass blocks UV light completely. If the numbers still jump then it's not UV it's just your phone picking up electrical interference. Way more likely that your "sunburn feel" is just your eyes getting tired from staring at bright blue LEDs for hours.

Don't standard incandescent bulbs put out a good bit of UV light too?
