Just realized using dental floss for piercings is way better than jewelry tapers
Was trying to stretch my second lobe from 14g to 12g last week and kept jamming the taper in wrong. Blood everywhere. My coworker who used to do piercings said to wrap the new jewelry in unwaxed floss and pull it through like a wick. Worked first try with zero pain. Wish I knew this 3 years ago when I ruined my first set of lobes. Has anyone else tried this method or got a better trick for stretching?

Taping is way smarter than forcing tapers, especially at bigger gauges where that method really shines.

Wait, I gotta push back on that. Taping is alright for smaller sizes but once you get past 0g or 00g, tapers are way more reliable because they give you that consistent stretch without the risk of the tape bunching up or trapping bacteria under layers. Honestly, I've seen too many people mess up their lobes with taping because they rush the layers or use cheap tape that just peels off. Plus, tapers let you feel exactly when your ear is ready and if it's not, you stop right there. Ngl, for bigger gauges like 1/2" and up, the dead stretching method with single flare glass plugs is actually the smartest thing, not taping or tapers.
