Is it really safe to use dental floss for a tongue split?

I tried the dental floss method on my tongue last month and it healed weird - one side is now thicker than the other. I'm wondering if proper scalpels are actually safer or if this is just a scare tactic. Has anyone else dealt with uneven healing?

You said it healed "weird" with one side thicker, and that's exactly what happens when you skip the pro tools. It's like using a butter knife to carve wood, you might get it done but the result is always wonky. Proper scalpels give you smooth cuts that heal even, so that uneven mess you got is just a sign of the cheap route failing again.

Cracked up at the butter knife comparison because that's pretty much what I did to myself. I didn't get it fixed yet, just sort of accepted my lopsided tongue and hope no one stares too hard when I eat ice cream. The scalpel route probably would have saved me a lot of awkward mirror checks and weird looks from friends who notice my tongue looks like it lost a fight.

I used to think dental floss was totally fine but your story makes me reconsider. Getting a clean cut with a scalpel probably reduces scar tissue and makes the healing way more even. Does that mean you had to get the thick side fixed or did it eventually even out on its own?
