Finally found a way to keep my gravel path from washing out every spring

I have a sloped section in my yard in Portland, and my gravel path would just disappear after the heavy rains (you know how it is). I tried landscape fabric, but the gravel still shifted. This year, I dug a 4-inch trench along the edge and laid in these cheap plastic lawn edging strips, but I buried them almost completely, leaving just half an inch above grade. I backfilled with soil and packed it down. It's been through two big storms now and the gravel hasn't moved an inch. Has anyone else tried something like this on a hill, or did you find a better fix?

I always thought you needed those expensive metal edging systems. Your idea with the cheap plastic strips buried deep is way smarter. How long did it take you to dig that full trench?

Wait, you actually dug the whole trench by hand?

Honestly felt like it took forever, my back is still mad at me. Sethc14 is right though, the plastic strips are a cheap win even if the digging part sucks. Just glad I didn't have to pay for one of those fancy metal kits.
