Tried making my own emergency candles out of leftover bacon grease last week

I saved up bacon grease for two months figuring it would be a great free fuel source for power outages. Lit one in my kitchen and the whole house smelled like a diner for three solid days. Has anyone else had their "practical" DIY prep idea turn into a hilarious disaster?

Three days? You got off easy. I tried the same thing but used the grease from frying up chorizo. My apartment smelled like a spicy greasy spoon for two weeks straight and I swear the smoke detector went off every time I walked near the kitchen. The worst part was the wick. I used twisted up paper towel and it just smoldered and dripped black crap everywhere. Made a huge mess on my counter.
