Hot take: I think paying $600 for a global health plan was a waste

Everyone says you need one, but I've been nomading for two years across Asia and Europe and never used it once. I got a bad stomach thing in Chiang Mai last year and the local clinic visit plus meds was only $40 out of pocket. The insurance paperwork for a claim would have taken longer than the sickness. Am I the only one who feels like this is just extra stress for no real payoff?

Your Chiang Mai example is a $40 stomach bug, not a broken leg needing surgery. What's your actual plan for a real medical emergency in a country with expensive private hospitals?

Actually, I keep a real travel insurance policy for big emergencies, not just wing it. It covers hospital stays and medical flights if things get really bad. So yeah, I've got a plan beyond hoping for the best.
