Found out my injector cups were 6.6 cents each from the dealer last week

I was rebuilding a P7100 pump on a 5.9 and needed new injector cups. I figured they'd be a couple bucks each from cummins but no, they quoted me 6.6 cents a piece. I had to ask the parts guy to repeat it because I thought he was messing with me. Has anyone else stumbled across surprisingly cheap factory parts like that?

Man that's a hell of a deal, glad someone else sees how crazy cheap some factory parts can be.

Does that mean some body shops are probably paying way less than we think they should for repairs too? I never even thought about how that markup game works both ways until now.

Yeah exactly, I've dealt with this firsthand. A lot of shops will lowball you on the insurance payout for your car because they know the parts they're buying are way cheaper than what they quote. I had a friend who got a repair estimate for $2,000, and the shop told him the parts alone were $900. I looked up the same factory part online and it was $250. That markup was pure profit for them. The thing is, shops will also negotiate with the insurer to get more money for labor and then still use the cheapest parts they can find. So you end up paying full price for repairs but they're making bank off that gap. Best way to protect yourself is to ask for itemized quotes and look up part numbers yourself before signing anything.
