Just realized my "backup" date plan backfired hard last Friday
I had this whole backup plan in case dinner went south... I booked a second reservation at a diner 2 blocks away thinking we could just walk over if things were awkward. But my date saw the confirmation email on my phone when I was checking the time, and she thought I was literally running from her. We sat there for 40 minutes in total silence before she just got up and left. Has anyone else had a safety net plan totally blow up in their face like that?

40 minutes of silence? That sounds brutal. Did you try to explain it was just a diner thing or did you freeze up the whole time?

Honestly that email thing is brutal but also kinda funny in a tragic way. Tbh the whole backup plan idea is just asking for trouble, you're basically telling the universe you don't trust the date to go well. Ngl I've done similar stuff though, like keeping a friend on standby to call me if things got weird, but I never thought about the logistics of switching locations. The real issue is she probably saw it as you having one foot out the door before you even sat down, which is a total vibe killer. You basically set yourself up for that awkward silence by planning for failure instead of just riding out the date as it came.
