A friend said my 'no second date' rule was the real problem...
I was having a drink with my friend Sarah last week and telling her about a guy who showed up 20 minutes late, ordered for me, and then spent the whole meal talking about his ex. My usual line is 'one strike and you're out,' so I wrote him off. But Sarah looked at me and said, 'Jenny, you're so quick to judge a whole person on a single bad hour. What if he was just nervous?' That hit different because she's right... I run my own business and I know first meetings with clients can be awkward, but I give them a second chance to get the job. Why don't I do that with dating? I've been so focused on avoiding another disaster that I might be missing someone who just had an off night. Has anyone else given a second date to a first date flop and had it actually work out?

Totally... my husband was a half hour late to our first date and spent the whole time talking about his band. Gave him a second shot and... well, here we are.

First meetings with clients" is not the same as a bad date.

30 minutes late is actually a pretty big red flag for most first dates, not gonna lie. Glad it worked out for her but that's not exactly a "normal" thing to brush off. When a client shows up late to a meeting, you usually reschedule or start the convo differently, not give them a "second shot" cause there's no romantic connection there. Dates and client meetings just have totally different stakes, so comparing them feels kinda off.
