The day I figured out I'd been loading the dishwasher wrong for like 15 years
I was at my brother's place in Portland last Thanksgiving and his wife casually said 'you know the prongs go down, right' after watching me cram plates in there, and I just stood there realizing every load I'd ever run was basically a failure.

liz saying "question everything I thought I knew about adulting" hit me hard, because tbh I had that exact same moment but with laundry. I was like 27 when my roommate casually mentioned that you're supposed to sort clothes by color AND fabric type, not just by whether they look dirty or not. I had been throwing my jeans in with my nice work shirts for years, wondering why everything had that weird faded look. So now I'm standing in my kitchen looking at my dishwasher like it's about to judge me, wondering what other basic life secrets I've been missing this whole time.

Wait, the PRONGS go DOWN? I have been loading dishwashers since I moved out of my parents' house in 2008. That is a full 16 years of me doing it wrong. I always just shoved plates in however they fit and prayed the water hit them. Seriously, how did I miss this for over a decade and a half? This is the kind of life-changing info that makes me question everything I thought I knew about adulting.
