The bus stop chat that flipped my opinion on meal prep

Last month I stood at the 14th and Main bus stop in Austin and listened to a guy named Mike explain how he preps 5 breakfasts and 5 lunches every Sunday for $38 total. I always figured meal prep meant eating the same boring chicken and rice all week, but he showed me his container system with different sauces each day. Now I do it two weeks in and I save about $60 a week, plus I quit grabbing fast food on my lunch break. Anyone else got a cheap meal prep method that doesn't feel like a chore?

So what's your actual ratio of repeat meals to variety? Like, Mike sounds like he has the sauce rotation down, but I gotta know if you're still staring at the same base protein every day. Because for me, the mental part is the killer. I did two weeks of turkey chili for lunch and by day nine I was literally counting the bites. Do you mix up the actual main dish or just the toppings? That's the part I can't seem to crack without turning Sunday into a six-hour cooking marathon.
