The library book drop at my branch has a weird echo that made me think someone was yelling at me
I dropped off three books this morning and this weird hollow sound bounced back so loud I actually turned around to check. Turns out the metal chute is just extra long or something. Has anyone else had a public drop box do something unexpected?

The 23rd Street branch drop box sounds exactly like mine. I swear the echo is so sharp it's like a metallic yell bouncing around. It got me thinking about other accidental city noises. Like the grating on the sidewalk downtown that sings a single high note every time someone steps on it. Or the bus shelter at 5th and Main that howls when the wind hits it just right. These weird sound quirks make the city feel alive in a way nobody planned.

The drop box at the 23rd Street branch near me has the same problem. It sounds like a tin can connected to a string inside. I think public infrastructure just has these weird quirks that nobody warns you about. Like how some traffic lights hum a different note than others. It's almost like every city has its own accidental soundtrack that nobody planned on.
