The barista at the Cedar Falls shop made me ditch my loyalty app for good

I used to scan my phone at the same coffee spot every morning for like 6 months, chasing that free 10th drink. Then one day the barista told me the app tracks my visits and sells that data to third parties, which I never even thought about. She showed me her own paper punch card and said she saves about $14 a month by refusing the digital version. After that, I switched to cash and a plain stamp card at a local place two blocks over. Now I feel less like a walking receipt and more like a regular customer. Has anyone else dumped a rewards app because of the privacy side of it, or am I just being paranoid here?
