Had to pick between a donut and a bagel this morning and somehow still lost

So I'm standing at this coffee shop on my way to work, and it's one of those places with the glass case right up front. I've got like 5 minutes to decide between a glazed donut from the local bakery or an everything bagel with cream cheese. I went with the bagel thinking it's the smarter choice, right? Well the lady behind the counter toasted it so hard it came out like a hockey puck, and the cream cheese was so cold it wouldn't even spread. I ended up eating half of it dry and tossed the rest. Meanwhile the guy next to me with the donut looked like he was having the best morning of his life. Has anyone else made a breakfast decision that backfired this bad?

Man that thing about the guy next to you with the donut living his best life really got me. It's like the universe is just rubbing it in your face sometimes. I've had that exact same thing happen where you make the "responsible" choice and it just punishes you for trying to be good. In my experience, a mediocre bagel is way worse than a mediocre donut because at least a mediocre donut is still kind of soft and sweet. A bad bagel is basically edible gravel with cold glue on it. Next time I'd say just go with the donut and own it, because at worst you're having a mediocre donut instead of a bad bagel that makes you mad the whole morning.

A glazed donut from a local bakery is almost always a safer bet than a bagel from a place that can't manage cream cheese temperature. Do you think that bagel place is worth giving another shot or is it permanently on the no-go list?
