Bulk bin oatmeal is 40% cheaper but takes way longer in the morning
I grabbed a 5-pound bag from the co-op near Portland last Sunday because the price per ounce was shocking compared to the boxed stuff. What I didn't realize is that it needs a full 12 minutes simmer instead of the 3 minute microwave packets I was used to. How do you all deal with quick mornings when you're trying to save cash but not your sanity?
I do the same thing and honestly the food tastes better by Wednesday. Something about it sitting there and soaking in its own juices. Made a pot of chili on Sunday and ate it for lunch Mon through Fri, no regrets. By day four you just stop tasting it as chili and start tasting it as "lunch." My coworker asked what smelled so good and I was like man I don't even know anymore. It's efficient and I refuse to feel bad about it.
