The waiter joke that got me banned from my sister's wedding reception
Last month at my sister's wedding in Cleveland, the waiter asked if anyone at our table wanted coffee. I said 'no thanks, I'm already buzzin from the free bar' and pointed at the groom, who's been sober for 6 years. The whole table went quiet, my sister stared daggers at me, and the best man whispered 'dude, he almost died from alcohol poisoning 3 years ago.' I had no clue, I swear. It wasn't even a real joke, just a dumb throwaway line. Has anyone else accidentally hit a serious topic with a dad joke and had zero idea until after? How do you recover from that without making it worse?

My cousin said something similar at my own wedding and I just bought him a case of beer and apologized straight up, he's over it now.
