Talked to a white hat hacker at a coffee shop last week

Guy next to me noticed I was checking my bank app on public wifi. He said "free wifi is great until someone's logging your keystrokes." Hit me hard because I never even thought about it. I use a VPN now even at home. Anyone else got caught slipping on public networks?

Right? @susana66 totally nailed it - most of the time people overcomplicate the whole hacking thing. In my experience, it's usually someone getting careless with a password or clicking on a dumb link that gets them caught, not some fancy keylogger setup. My buddy literally got busted because he logged into his own account from the victim's computer and forgot to clear the history, haha.

Yeah "keystroke logging" sounds scary but most hackers aren't that dedicated
