Switched my password manager after a breach scare, the old way felt reckless

I used to keep everything in a notes app on my phone, you know, the same one synced to my laptop, total nightmare waiting to happen. Last month a buddy at a gym in Austin got his accounts drained because he did the same thing, so I moved to a local vault with offline encryption. Now I rotate my critical logins every 60 days and use a hardware key for my email, which felt like overkill at first but not after seeing the damage. Has anyone else ditched the convenience route for something clunkier but safer, and was it worth the extra hassle for you?

Ditched the same setup after my brother got hit. He had every password in a text file on his desktop, one got phished, and they cleaned out his crypto wallet in like ten minutes. I switched to a local vault with a master password that isn't saved anywhere online, plus I turned on two-factor for everything that supports it. It's annoying typing in a long passphrase on my phone every time, but I sleep better knowing the vault file sits on a USB stick in my drawer, not floating on some cloud server. Worth every extra second when I remember how fast that stuff disappears.
