My brother insisted I use a password manager 2 years ago, and I ignored him until I got hit with a $400 ransomware demand last month.

That demand finally made me install Bitwarden, and now I cannot believe I used the same password for everything for so long has anyone else had to learn this lesson the hard way?

Did you back everything up before you wiped the machine? I learned that one the hard way after a scare a few years back. Now I keep a physical backup drive in a fire safe plus a cloud copy, just in case. The password manager is smart but don't sleep on having backups too.

@black.joel yeah I learned that lesson when my laptop died mid-project and I hadn't backed up in like six months.

I learned that lesson when my laptop died" hits hard man. I read somewhere that something like 30% of people NEVER back up their stuff at all which is HORRIFYING to think about. @black.joel you're totally right about the password manager being only part of the picture, I just started using one and realized I had been way too relaxed about the whole backup thing.
