Rant: I spent $80 on a 'customer service training' video that was just common sense
I bought this online course from a guy who promised it would teach me how to handle any angry customer. It was an hour long video and cost me eighty bucks. The whole thing was just stuff like 'listen to the customer' and 'stay calm', which I already do every day at my call center job. I feel like I got totally scammed and just wasted that money. Has anyone else fallen for a training program that was completely useless?

Yeah, that "common sense" thing gets me. It's like they take the most basic parts of a job, package it up, and charge you for it. I bet the guy selling it has never even worked a real customer service shift. What else was in the video, was it at least well made or just a slideshow?

Actually the guy who made it worked in call centers for like ten years before starting his training company. The video shows real calls with blurred faces and voice changes, but you hear the agents using his methods and turning angry customers around. It's not just talking heads either, they break down each step of what made the calls work.

The video was actually shot in a real call center with former agents. I used to think it was all theory too, but seeing the real life examples changed my mind.
