Vent: my roommate's tuna melt at 2am in our Toledo apartment killed my sleep for good
Back in 2019 I shared a two bedroom off Bancroft in Toledo with a guy who worked night shifts, and one Tuesday around 2am he decided to broil a tuna melt with the oven door open because the AC was broken. The smell and the smoke alarm woke me up for the third time that summer, and after that I started sleeping with a box fan on full blast and earplugs, which I still do in every place I've lived since. Does anyone else have a weird sleep habit that only started because of something a roommate did?
The oven door open part got me because that is exactly what my old roommate did with a frozen pizza at 1am, except she also left the kitchen light on so the whole apartment glowed like a spaceship. I ended up taping a towel over the bottom of my door, which looked insane but it worked. These days I still shove a towel under every hotel door I sleep behind, which my girlfriend thinks is nuts. Funny how one dumb night rewires your whole brain.
