Actually keeping it in a shoebox is fine, that's how people have raised wild birds for decades.

Knew a buddy who tried the same thing once. He found this tiny sparrow in his yard and thought he was gonna nurse it back to health in a shoebox with some towels. Tbh the bird was all stressed out and wouldn't eat anything he tried to give it. Ngl it was a mess with droppings all over his desk and the bird kept trying to fly out every time he opened the lid. He ended up taking it to a wildlife rescue place the next day after someone told him it's actually illegal to keep wild birds like that. Honestly he felt kinda dumb but at least the bird got real help from people who knew what they were doing.
