Used to need a heavy bass song, now it's all about the drums only, what changed me?

Back in my 20s I HAD to crank anything with a huge subwoofer line, like that song had to shake my rear view mirror off. I drove a beat up Civic with a $300 system I pieced together myself. Then last year I got a newer car with a decent stock stereo, and I figured I'd miss the bass. But I started listening to this live drum track from a show in Nashville and I found myself turning it UP just for the snare hits. Now I'm all about crisp cymbals and kick drums, it's a totally different vibe. Has anyone else switched genres or sound profiles as they got older, or is it just my ears getting tired?

Huh, that's wild timing. I just read an article about how your ears actually change physically as you age, and the higher frequencies can start to sound better or clearer to some people. Maybe it's not just taste, but biology doing some rewiring. Either way, welcome to the drum club, snare hits are criminally underrated.
