Found out my car speakers actually sound better when I turn down the bass a notch

I always cranked the bass to max on that one track I blast, thinking louder low end meant more thump. Last week I tried dropping it two notches on the equalizer and the whole song came through clearer, especially the vocals and snare hits. Anyone else ever mess with EQ settings and get a surprise like that?

Totally changed my mind after I tried dialing back the bass too.

Totally agree @grant.nina, cutting the bass made everything sound way cleaner

Yeah, "cutting the bass made everything sound way cleaner" really hit home for me. I actually read somewhere that a lot of home studios mix with way too much low end because of cheap monitors or headphones that can't reproduce it right. So when you take it out, the mix suddenly has room to breathe and you can hear the other parts better. Your mileage may vary on how much to cut, but Ive found pulling back the subs even a little bit makes a huge difference. Its funny how a simple tweak like that can change the whole feel of a track.
