Dropped $60 on a car wash subscription and my speakers paid the price
So I finally hit a small win at work last month, got a little bonus for covering a bunch of overtime shifts, and I decided to treat my truck to one of those unlimited car wash memberships. $60 a month, sounded awesome, wash it every day if I want. Well, about two weeks in, I notice my front speakers are sounding super muddy and quiet. Took the door panel off and there was water sitting in the bottom of the door, like actual standing water. The high pressure jets from those automatic washes had been blasting water past the seals every single time I went through. I pulled the speaker, and the cone was soft and the magnet was all rusty. Now I gotta buy new speakers and reseal everything, way more than the $60 I thought I was saving. So if you blast your music loud like I do, check your door seals before you sign up for one of those daily wash deals. Has anyone else messed up their car audio with an automatic wash, or am I the only one who learned this the hard way?
Yikes. Water sitting in the door is brutal, I had the same thing happen to a Civic I used to own and it killed a brand new pair of speakers in like a month. Those automatic washes blast water right where the window trim lets it slip past, especially if the rubber is old and dried out. The fix for me was pulling the door panel, drying it all out, and running a bead of silicone around the speaker adapter ring before I put new ones in. Cheap insurance compared to buying speakers every time you want a clean truck.
