That week in July when nothing went right on a high rise in Austin

I was up on a Liebherr 130 tower crane, and we had three straight days of 25 mph winds that shut us down by noon each day. Then on Thursday, the radio went dead for 20 minutes while I had a load of rebar swinging near the 35th floor. My signal guy had to run up to the roof and wave me down with his hard hat. Has anyone else had a radio die at the worst possible time?

Up on the 38th floor of a Dallas job, my radio crapped out mid-swing too.

Radio dying mid-swing is a special kind of lonely up there.

Man, that hits. Its like the whole world just goes silent and you're stuck up there with nothing but your own thoughts and the wind. Makes every little creak or groan from the building sound ten times louder than it should. You start second guessing every bolt and beam, wondering if the next gust is gonna be the one that shakes everything loose. Alone is one thing, but that sudden quiet makes it feel a lot heavier.
