Heard a foreman say 'slow is smooth, smooth is fast' this morning

I was picking up a load of steel beams at a job site near Portland. Old foreman hollered that at a green operator rushing his picks. Hit me different because I used to rush too. Spent the whole day taking my time, everything went smoother. Any of you guys have a saying that stuck with you?

Had a buddy years back who worked on a framing crew. Guy was always in a hurry, trying to beat the clock every day. One morning he skipped tying off his harness proper just to save thirty seconds. Slipped on some dew-wet plywood and took a nasty fall off a second story. Broke his wrist in two places and spent six months out of work. His foreman told him later that you can't make up for lost time when you're laid up in a cast. Now he tells every new kid he sees rushing to take a breath and check their gear first.
