Spent 2 hours trying to fix a brush that just needed to be cleaned properly

Was about to toss my favorite boar bristle brush. Tangled up. Hair all stuck in the pad. Thought the bristles were bent for good. Took it apart. Soaked in warm water and a drop of shampoo for 15 minutes. Used a comb to pull the hair out. Good as new. How many brushes have you tossed that could have been saved?

And the worst part is we probably spent good money on those brushes too. I had a wooden paddle brush I almost chunked because the cushion got all stiff. Popped the pad out, washed it with dish soap and a toothbrush, let it dry flat. Cushion softened right up. That brush is still going strong three years later. Same with my Denman knockoff the bristles got all gummy on. Soaked it in baking soda and water overnight, rinsed it, good to go. How many brushes have you rescued with a little patience?

43 brushes is what I've saved over the last 5 years. I keep a tally on my grooming shop wall. The baking soda soak is honestly the best trick for gummy bristles. I do that plus a vinegar rinse for the really nasty ones that customers bring in. The Denman knockoffs are actually tougher than people give them credit for if you just take 10 minutes to clean them right.
