An instructor at the Aveda Institute in Minneapolis said my sectioning was "polite," and now I get it
She meant I was taking tiny, safe sections because I was scared of messing up, not because it was right for the cut. For two weeks after that I forced myself to take sections twice as wide, and my blowouts came out smoother with way less rework. That one word stung at the time but it fixed a habit I'd had since school. What's the most backhanded bit of feedback you've gotten that actually helped?
