My buddy swore the 'chemtrail' stuff was just water vapor, but after seeing those weird, persistent grid patterns over Phoenix last summer, I'm not so sure.

He said it was just normal contrails from commercial jets, but I watched them spread out and blanket the sky for hours, which got me looking into the whole geoengineering debate, so what's the deal with that, is it really just ice crystals or something else?

Yeah, those grid patterns are totally normal from busy flight paths crossing. The spreading happens because the ice crystals from the contrails get blown around by high winds up there. It looks weird, but it's just normal weather stuff mixing with air traffic.

Exactly, and the science behind it is pretty solid. Those trails are basically tiny ice crystals from jet exhaust hitting the super cold air up high. When the air up there is humid, they don't evaporate fast, they spread out and linger. The grid shapes happen because planes fly set routes, so their paths cross a lot. It looks wild, but it's just normal stuff happening in a part of the sky we don't usually pay attention to.
