Lost $150 on a fake leak detection service

I had a small drip under my sink last month and called a company that advertised $49 leak detection. The guy showed up, poked around for 5 minutes, then said I needed a $150 pipe replacement. I paid it, but the drip came back 2 days later. Turns out it was just a loose fitting, not a broken pipe. Has anyone else dealt with these bait-and-switch plumbing outfits?

Honestly that sucks and it's exactly why I've stopped trusting any service that advertises a super low price just to get their foot in the door. It's the same pattern everywhere, not just plumbing - cars, home repairs, even gym memberships lure you in with something cheap then hit you with the real cost. These companies count on people not knowing enough to push back or get a second opinion.

Is their sales pitch secretly written by a magician because somehow that low price keeps disappearing like a coin trick? lmao. I swear they must have a handbook that says quote $49 then find a way to make it $490 before you even pull out a tool. Learned that one the hard way with a "budget friendly" garage door repair that ended up costing more than my first car lol.
