That bag of finishing tools I bought off Craigslist cost me $300 in repairs

Got a whole set of used tools from some guy retiring, figured it was a steal. Turns out his magnesium floats had all these little burrs and gouges that I didn't notice until after a pour. Spent about 6 hours and $300 in material trying to grind and patch a slab that ended up looking like a mess. Anyone else get bitten by used gear that looked fine but messed up a job?

Man that $300 spent on repairs is still way cheaper than what a new set of those high end mags would run you from a supply house. You probably saved like $700 over buying new, just gotta learn to inspect every tool under a bright light before you hand over the cash next time.

Tbh the thing nobody's mentioning is how long those mags will last now after being repaired versus new ones off the shelf. Repaired stuff often comes back weaker in the long run, especially if the fix wasn't done by someone who really knows those specific tools. Might end up spending the same or more when they crap out again in a year.

@patricia_green21 got a point, repairs are a gamble with used high end stuff.
