Old school vs. pump trucks for concrete finishing

I worked with a crew last month that still mixes by hand and it took twice as long as using a pump truck. Am I the only one who thinks the pump makes a smoother finish too?

Didn't you notice the pump truck actually helps get the concrete placed more evenly to begin with (which matters way more than people give it credit for)? I swear the old timers just like making things harder for themselves, kinda like my uncle who still sharpens his own mower blades by hand even though he owns a perfectly good grinder.

Honestly, my buddy tried using a pump truck once and the guy running it totally botched the mix, ended up with a crusty mess that took twice as long to finish. He still swears by wheelbarrows now, says at least the hard way lets him control exactly what's happening.
