Messed up a pour last Wednesday in Tucson because I didn't check the weather

Forecast said 85 and sunny. Ended up hitting 97 with zero cloud cover. Slab dried out way too fast and I got spider web cracks all over. Had to grind and patch a 400 sq ft job. Took 3 extra hours. Does anyone have a go-to method for slowing down set time in extreme heat besides just using more water?

Oh man, that's rough. I mean, I've been there with the spider web cracks and it's the worst. Honestly, I just use a slow set admixture instead of messing with water temp. @terrybennett is right that cold water tricks you more than it helps. Are you mixing in plasticizer too or just straight retarder?

Man that sucks. You try using a cold water mix or ice in the batch?
